Follow-up: Tumblr’s New Policy Against...
staff:
Last Thursday, we posted a draft of a new policy against blogs that actively promote self-harm, along with some PSA-style language to appear next to searches associated with self-injury. The reaction was overwhelming. The post itself provoked more than 25,000 likes, reblogs, and replies; and more than 2,500 of you sent in comments by email. Thank you.
By far, the most common comment was...

I am appalled by the number of "Tumblr feminists"...
existentialroughdraft:
Yes, I am ranting on Tumblr hoping this would reach to those Tumblr feminists and reconsider their actions. It takes more than a dslr camera, nude pictures, and an internet connection to earn this merit.
Dear OP: Insulting people who make choices different to yours and find different things sexually or otherwise liberating also does absolutely nothing for the cause.

Claiming to be a feminist while you oppose sex work and imply that it’s inherently degrading and harmful to women really puts you in a difficult position, because I really don’t see how you’re any different from men that want to police women’s bodies and emotions.
The fact is that you can’t tell a woman not to be empowered by her own sexuality and choices, and if you really think...
Indiana’s Bob Morris Apologizes for Calling Girl... →
lawsonry:
Indiana lawmaker Bob Morris is convinced that Girl Scout troops are a sexually-promiscuous front for Planned Parenthood who endorse lesbian, feminist, and communist agendas. Morris discovered this shocking by talking to some “knowledgeable constituents” and “a small amount of Web-based research.”

Tumblr Staff: A New Policy Against Self-Harm Blogs →

One of the great things about Tumblr is that people use it for just about every conceivable kind of expression. People being people, though, that means that Tumblr sometimes gets used for things that are just wrong. We are deeply committed to supporting and defending our users’ freedom of speech, but we do draw some limits. As a company, we’ve decided that some specific kinds of content...

Adult work, sexuality and 'coming out'
I’ve arranged to have a sit down chat with my Mother next week to explain to her my career choice, work, sexuality and interests as I prepare for a pretty big change in my life. While I am confident in my choices, morals and beliefs, this is probably going to be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do voluntarily- ever.
I don’t really have any support in person and feel very...

For some reason I’ve always had a fascination with labia. I just think they are an absolutely beautiful part of the human body. But I found that the porn out there overwhelmingly prizes small to invisible labia as the standard. Why are things like…

[TW: sexual torture] My problem with Bayonetta...
[trigger warning: torture, sexual torture, grossness]
Bayonetta is a problematic game. Regardless of if you like it or not, as a feminist it is undeniably problematic. However, I feel really unfomfortable that peoples issue with the game are things to do with the main character herself, because for me the most fucked up part is not Bayonetta being sexy.
It’s the gential death torture used...

Is it time to bar Saudi Arabia from Olympic Games?
Personally I think it’s an important thing to do. I was very proud when in 2000 the games hosted in my country banned Afghanistan due to the extremist rule of the Taliban’s oppression of women and its prohibition of them playing sport. The games are not about race, religion, gender, orientation or age. It’s the best of the best competing from around the world- or at least it...

TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual torture, torture discussion
getbackibite:
I hate when people say that Bayonetta is a bad representation of female video game characeters. She isn’t.
She doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s confident and can take care of herself. She doesn’t care what you think about how she dresses or acts, and she knows what she’s doing. She deserves respect because she earns it....
